The Life Changing Magic Of Letting Go.

No one wants to relinquish control. Certainly, no one likes uncertainty.

Letting go means you are no longer in charge and not being in charge can leave you scared, vulnerable and uncertain. And who wants that?

You want always to be one step ahead because you worry how you will cope if things go off script.

You worry, also, whether you will have to move out of your comfort zone. Most of us aren’t too happy when we have to leave. We are all fiercely attached and more often than not we have to be dragged out of there kicking and screaming.

Because change can be hard.

Looking at it objectively: who would want to live with hard if they can help it?

Yet constantly tugging at this or pulling at that; tightening this, trying to manipulate that: it is exhausting just thinking about it.

Which is why letting go is so liberating. You do what you need to do, what is required of you to do as a sane functioning adult and then…..you let go. You release the outcome.

We cannot control anything in life except our own thoughts and actions. And that, to me, is the ultimate freedom.

Whatever happens happens.

Imagine what we could do with that extra energy and that relief that comes from letting go- however reluctant we might be to admit that we feel it.

Imagine the peace. The bliss.

You would never need to nag, remind, bribe, push, cajole or threaten anybody to do anything ever again. How compassionate would that be to ourselves!

How many fights would we avoid, how many relationships would we save, how many antacids would we not need to take?

Just by letting go. Of the need to have everything go exactly the way you planned, dreamed, hoped  or imagined. By giving others agency to determine their own actions and choices and learn from their own mistakes.

So whatever your role in life is fulfill it. Do your duty and be kind enough to yourself to leave all outcomes to God.

Because you are no more able to change outcomes than you are to influence them.

For me, letting go led me to a place of peace and happiness I never envisaged having.

Who knew not being in control was so invigorating?

How about you? What are you willing to let go of today for your peace of mind?
